Thomas Giffin is an expert instructor for Safety Research Consultants, Inc., (SRC) who started his career in law enforcement in 1973. He worked at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Southern California for over 33 years as a jail deputy, patrol deputy, community relations officer, narcotics investigator, homicide investigator, vice investigator, robbery investigator, and sergeant in charge of the department’s tactical training center, which includes the state certified defensive driving course.

“In commercial truck driving, like law enforcement, the primary goal of safety training is to protect lives and property,” he said. “This goal is accomplished with SRC by providing to commercial truck drivers the necessary tools and skill sets to avoid accidents by utilizing sound safety practices and actions.”

He tells his own family: “Anticipate the actions of other drivers using all your senses.”

Giffin holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology.
